March 19th 2000
from Woodspring Equestrian Centre, Clevedon

Ready for
the off (left) and arriving back (right) at Woodspring.
We had near perfect weather for our first rally of the year, sunny but not
too warm for the ponies who still mainly had their winter coats. We had
five turnouts, it would have been six but for someone’s overly delayed
arrival - please allow plenty of time to get to rallies
The route took us around the lanes to Kingston Seymoor, though we had to
make an unexpected diversion as the Fire Brigade were blocking the road
whilst they rescued a pony (not one of ours!) from a rhyne thence on to
Yatton for a stop at the Bridge Inn for a much appreciated drink, plus a
breather for the horses. We returned via the road we had originally
intended to use on the way out, having seen the fire engine returning,
giving a total distance of some 13 miles.
A trap is certainly a good grandstand for viewing wild life, I noticed a
heron taking to the air, various ducks and an unidentified bird of prey
amongst other birds along the way - Shanty must have been behaving herself
well for me to have had time to look around !!
Many thanks to Bryan, Di, Barb, Lionel and Mary for stewarding and to my
fellow whips for putting up with Shanty’s rather variable pace in the lead
she always walks slowly but trots fast.
